Steel hex bolts on a metal work surface

Bolts we supply

Structural bolts
Heavy hex bolts for steel-to-steel connections in buildings and frames, such as ASTM F3125 (A325 and A490), used with heavy hex nuts and hardened washers.
Carriage bolts
A round dome head with a square neck that locks into wood, so the bolt won't spin while the nut is tightened. Common in timber framing, docks, trailers and fencing.
A307 heavy hex bolts
Low-carbon steel bolts with a heavy hex head for general construction and secondary connections.
Anchor bolts
Cast into concrete to hold down columns, equipment, light poles and sign structures. Available straight, bent (L-shaped) or headed, often to ASTM F1554.
Assembly bolts
Hex bolts and cap screws for machinery, equipment and fabrication, in grade 5, grade 8, stainless steel and other materials.

Materials, grades and standards

We stock low-carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, bronze and aluminum, including anodized finishes, in grade 5, grade 8, grade 9 and B7 and more. Everything we supply meets the specifications and standards of ASTM, ASME, SAE and ANSI.

Common questions

What's the difference between A307 and grade 5 bolts?

A307 is a low-carbon steel specification for general use with a minimum tensile strength of 60,000 psi. SAE grade 5 bolts are medium-carbon steel, heat treated, and roughly twice as strong (120,000 psi for sizes up to 1 inch). Grade 8 is stronger still at 150,000 psi. Use the grade your drawing or engineer specifies.

What is a B7 bolt?

B7 refers to ASTM A193 grade B7, a heat-treated alloy steel used for studs and bolts in high-temperature and high-pressure service, such as pipe flanges. B7 is one of the grades BISI stocks.

Which bolts are used for structural steel connections?

Structural steel connections usually call for ASTM F3125 bolts (grades A325 or A490) with matching heavy hex nuts and hardened washers. Always follow the engineer of record's drawings for the grade, length and installation method.
