Common questions

When should I use a square head set screw instead of a socket set screw?

Square head set screws are turned with a wrench, so they can be tightened harder and are easy to see and remove. They're common on collars and older equipment. Socket (headless) set screws sit flush or below the surface, which is better around moving parts.

What is a shoulder screw used for?

A shoulder screw has a smooth, precision-ground shoulder between the head and the thread. Parts can pivot or slide on the shoulder, so it's used for linkages, rollers, guides and pivot points.
